Anthony Pizzoferrato (b. Columbus, OH USA) is an Italian-American photojournalist and documentary photographer who has called Yerevan, Armenia, home since 2017. He embeds himself in the long-term ripples of conflict, history, and social shifts across the South Caucasus and the Post-Soviet space.

Anthony’s perspective is shaped by a dual-background. Before his time in the Caucasus, he served with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan (2010), an experience that provided him with the situational discipline and field-maturity required to navigate high-stakes environments. This background allows him to move through complex geopolitical landscapes with a level of technical precision and calm.

At his core, Anthony considers himself a visual historian. He is either covering deep-access stories or breaking news, often spending years documenting the quiet resilience of underreported communities. He has a particular knack for the human side of the job, building genuine rapport with people in vulnerable situations to ensure their stories are told with dignity rather than just being captured.

He is a current contributor to The Associated Press and his work was recently nominated in the 2026 Siena International Photo Awards.

His photographs have been featured in some of the world’s leading media, including Time, CNN, BBC, Bloomberg, Politico, Die Zeit, and Le Figaro, as well as advocacy groups like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International among others.

In addition to editorial work, he continues to develop personal, long-term documentary projects that reflect the complexity and resilience of life in the regions he covers.

Nominee, Siena International Photo Awards 2026 – Fascinating Faces and Characters category.

Currently accepting editorial and documentary assignments for 2026, both within the region and worldwide.
